Sprint LG Optimus G

 Introduction

The Sprint LG Optimus G is the CDMA / LTE variant of LG’s  2012 flagship phone.

Inside the Optimus G the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro powers LG’s first quad-core flagship. Clocked at 1.5 GHz the S4 Pro is Qualcomm’s best chipset for 2012. The quad-core CPU provides excellent performance and responsiveness for both apps and gaming while still giving reasonably decent battery life.

The Optimus G is one of Sprint’s first quad-core handsets as well as one of the very first LTE phones considering Sprint being one of the last US carriers to roll out LTE support.

The Sprint version of the Optimus features a 13 megapixel camera sensor which is quite an improvement compared to the 8 megapixel sensor on the AT&T version (LGE970).

The Optimus G has a 4.7 inch IPS display with a 768×1280 318 DPI (XHDPI) resolution.

Finally, The Sprint Optimus G includes a 2100 mAh non-removable Lithium Polymer battery, 32 GB of internal storage, and unlike the AT&T variant, Sprint’s model does not have a MicroSD card slot.

Related Devices

While there are many variants of the Optimus G the Sprint model is most similar to the International Optimus G (LGE975) with its 13 MP camera and lack of MicroSD support.

The Optimus G series was launched alongside the LG Google Nexus 4 which features similar design and the same exact internal specifications with the exception of the CDMA radio.

Flashing / Modifications

Bootloader

The bootloader on all Optimus G models is locked by LG. The bootloader can be unlocked using an exploit known as FREEGEE.

Firmware Flashing

LG Smartphones use a proprietary flashing method for loading firmware files in a KDZ format.

The PC Sync software provided officially by LG allows the end-user to update using the PC sync tool while the device is connected via USB cable.

However the PC Sync software only allows upgrading from one official firmware to a newer official version. It does not allow downgrades or flashing the device back to stock from a custom firmware.

In order to downgrade or return to stock a third party unofficial KDZ flashing tool is required, along with the KDZ firmware files.
